[REVIEW] The Holy Grail of Cleansers: Botanic Farm’s Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet

Those of you who wear liquid eyeliner and waterproof mascara will understand me when I say this: removing makeup is HARD. It’s tedious work. Sometimes you can’t even get all of it off no matter how many times you rinse your face. This is why I often threw in the towel and went to sleep with dark little mascara crumbs all over my face. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t being lazy. I tried all sorts of makeup removers ranging from wipes to exfoliating scrubs to luxury brand liquids. They removed my foundation, but they were never strong enough to tackle my eyeliner and mascara in one go.

Then, the Memebox Black Friday Sale came around and my life was forever changed.

At the time, I was relatively new to K-beauty. I had no idea what I was looking for, and since all of the Black Friday boxes sold out within seconds (SOB), I scoured the doorbusters page for the best of the best. Among them was Botanic Farm’s Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet.

This product taught me that there are two different types of cleansers: Oil-Based Cleansers which are meant to remove oil-based makeup and other impurities, and Water-Based Cleansers which are used afterward to remove any remaining residue and keep the skin supple.

It comes with a little scooper to keep the product clean.

Witness its sherbet-like texture!

The Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet is an oil-based cleanser that comes in the form of a smooth, silky sherbet. When you use the spoon to scoop some of the product, it glides right through.

How to Use:

  1. Scoop a teaspoon of the product using the provider scooper.
  2. Lightly massage the product all over you face, focusing on your eyelids if you use heavy eyeliner and mascara. The goal is to absorb the makeup with the product and rub it around. Do not be afraid to look like a raccoon!
  3. Using lukewarm water, thoroughly rinse the product off of your face.
  4. Voila! Makeup-free face.

♡ Ingredients
Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Polyethylene, PEG-10 Isostearate, Rice Ferment Filtrate (Sake), Saccharomyces/Rice Bran Ferment, Lactobacillus/ Soybean Ferment Extract, Trihydroxystearin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum)
♡ Texture
The product truly feels like a sherbet. It’s lightweight, silky, and melts on your face.
♡ Scent
It has the faint aroma of rice milk. Probably because it’s made of rice bran ferment.
♡ Packaging
Though the packaging isn’t as cute as let’s say Recipe’s Slowganic Cleanser, Botanic Farm’s simple, straightforward design speaks to the fact that they are an honest brand with a focus on product performance. They are not here to cover up a mediocre product with amazing packaging. Somehow, their understated packaging makes the effectiveness of the Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet even more magical.
♡ Performance
This product is MAGIC! Magic, I tell you! Not only does it dissolve foundation, it also effortlessly removes the most waterproof of eyeliner and mascara. Additionally, the product comes off with a few rinses of water. For those of you who do not want to spend 30 minutes removing your makeup, this is the answer. It takes 5-minutes tops and is five times as effective as any other makeup removal product you might have.
♡ Price
I bought this product for $13 thanks to a Black Friday doorbuster special, but it is available on Amazon for $27! Although $27 seems a little pricey, the 100ml of this product goes a long way. I’ve been using it every day for three months and I still have 75% left. I’m willing to bet that this product can last up to 9 months.
PROS
  • Effortlessly removes makeup, even waterproof eyeliner and mascara
  • Smooth, silky texture
  • Slightly moisturizing
  • Solid amount of product that can last 6-9 months
  • Rinses off easily
CONS
  • A little bit pricey
  • Packaging could be cuter

Final Verdict:  ☆☆☆☆☆

I give it 5/5 stars. This is the holy grail of oil-based cleansers. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Ooh sounds like it’s worth a look. I’ve been reading more about the brightening benefits of rice and trying to incorporate that more into my routine.
Though amusingly the longevity of the product puts me off slightly, I like trying out new things but won’t buy till I’m close to finishing 😛
